Dawwin / دوّن
A study space for students of knowledge
Dawwin began as a personal attempt to make Islamic study less fragmented – bringing lesson notes, Qur'an and Hadith references, books and course materials, research, reflective work, revision and developing ideas into one connected place.
It is still first and foremost a tool built through real study. I would love, Insha'Allah, to make it useful to other students too.
Built for study, not to replace it
Dawwin is a study and organisation tool. It is not a teacher, a source of Islamic authority, a fatwa service or a substitute for qualified scholarship. Teachers, primary sources, course materials and careful verification remain primary.
Where Dawwin surfaces Qur'an, Hadith, lexical material or academic research, provenance matters. The aim is to make sources easier to reach and connect, not to make the software itself the source.
An active project
Dawwin is in active development. Features are regularly added, refined and sometimes changed as the platform is used in day-to-day study. Bugs can happen; when they do, they are usually investigated and fixed quickly. Documentation is currently more limited than the feature set.
For now, Dawwin should be treated as evolving software rather than a finished commercial product. Keep independent copies of anything you cannot afford to lose.
What Dawwin draws on
How Dawwin uses AI
Dawwin uses Anthropic's Claude Haiku selectively as a study aid. It does not silently write or rewrite your notes.
AI-assisted features are used for things such as proposing flashcards, terminology and concepts from material you have already studied; surfacing possible developing threads across notes and reflections; suggesting relationships between saved study concepts; providing reading or transliteration aids; and answering questions against a selected body of your own study notes.
These features are designed around review rather than automatic authority: Haiku proposes; the student decides. Relevant excerpts of study material may be sent to the AI provider when an AI-assisted feature is invoked. More detail belongs in the Privacy Notice.
Towards open source
Dawwin-specific code is currently developed privately while the platform is changing quickly. After the codebase has matured and undergone a thorough security, privacy and quality review, I would like to explore releasing appropriate Dawwin-specific components as open source, Insha'Allah.
Third-party libraries, services, datasets and content remain subject to their own licences and terms.
Free to use. Not free to provide.
Dawwin is currently intended to be free to use. Hosting, storage, backups, AI calls and external services still have real costs, so the model may need to evolve as usage grows. If it does, the aim will be sustainability rather than profit.
If you use and appreciate Dawwin and would like to support the project, there are a few ways you can help. None of them unlock extra features – they are simply ways to support Dawwin and some of the projects it relies on.
Feedback & feature requests
Found a bug, have an idea or want to tell me what is working well? Send feedback through Dawwin. You can choose whether to leave a reply email.
Project status
Dawwin is a live, non-commercial project and anyone can currently create an account and use it. It is still in active development and wider public awareness is being grown gradually while the platform, documentation and support around it continue to mature. The Terms and Privacy Notice will continue to evolve with it.
